Sometimes when people express to me that there struggling with motivation, I’ll ask them the reasons for and against a certain decision.

So, if they’re struggling with motivation to come in for a Session, I’ll ask them what the benefits of doing that are.

I might do this in person or over messages.

And they’ll normally give me a number of different things related to how it makes them feel and achieving their longer term goals.

And then I’ll ask them what are the reasons not to do a Session?

And they’ll often reply with something like “There are no reasons not to”.

Which, of course, isn’t true.

If there are reasons to do something and no reasons not to do it then we would do it.

100% of the time.

Ultimately, there are always reasons for and against any decision.

Even the ones that feel like absolute no brainers.

We’ve just often rationalised the pros and cons and made a decision without really thinking about it.

There are time, energy and often money considerations around any decisions.

Opportunity cost – what we could have been doing instead.

We perhaps just struggle with some of our reasons because they don’t feel legitimate enough.

But if we pretend they don’t exist, then we’re doing ourselves a disservice.

Wanting to stay in our warm house rather than venture out is a perfectly valid reason.

Wanting to spend time with our partner and watch a program that we enjoy is a perfectly valid reason.

Feeling low in energy after a busy day is a perfectly valid reason.

But the more we stack up all the different reasons for or against a certain decision, the more helpful it can be.

And the more we are honest with ourselves for the reasons for both sides of a decision, then we’re more likely to be able to tweak the plan to take into account our various needs and make it a win-win as much as possible.

Much love,

Jon ‘dat’ Hall

P.S. Wanting to make 2024 the year that you drop that you finally drop that weight, improve your energy and mood AND keep it going?

Here are three reasons to take action now and reserve your space at RISE for the New Year;

– Get a place – we’ve sold January out in December for 10 years straight and this year will be no different. Leave it till then and you’ll have to wait or end up somewhere less good and getting worse results.

– 2023 prices locked in before the annual price increase

– Rest of the year for free. Even if you don’t do any workouts, you’ll have coaching, support and accountability over Christmas to mean you don’t have even more to undo come January

It’s to arrange a no pressure, no salesy stuff opportunity to look at the programme and see if we’re a good fit for each other (and for you not to miss out)

RISE in Macclesfield was established in 2012 and specialise in Group Personal Training weight loss programmes for those that don’t like the gym and find diets boring and restrictive!
