Anyone here like playing chess?
My two older sons have got really into it recently.
The middle one, particularly regularly challenges me to games.
And since he bought himself a book on top chess moves, he beats me more often than I beat him.
I assume we all know the basics of chess?
Alternating black and white squares.
Pieces that can move in different ways.
Imagine your life as a chess board.
The white squares are the good things in your life.
The things you enjoy, that you’ve achieved, that you’re proud of, etc.
The black squares are the “less good stuff”.
It’s tempting to try and live our life only on the white squares.
To avoid the black ones.
But we never get as far by doing that.
We’re unlikely to “win”.
To get where we want to go in life.
And, in reality, we don’t always know the colour of the squares.
They’re often more shades of gray.
Some that appear black might actually be white and vice versa.
And some we can’t get to without going through others.
And what if the best of you, your most powerful characteristics were defined becuase of the black squares you’ve stepped on, not the white ones?
What if the white squares you’re on now, or have been on, had only been made possible by the black squares you were willing to stand on?
Life isn’t supposed to be easy.
If it was, it would be.
Remembering that those proverbial black squares are always going to be there……..
And that our willingness to selectively go through them…….
Can be a massive factor in how much we enjoy “the game”.
Much love,
Jon ‘Mate’ Hall
P.S. I’ve done a lot of these today (prep for holiday) and I’m tired. Why not just give our four week trial a go. It’s got a Money Back Guarantee. What have you got to lose? www.myrise.co.uk/apply
