I happened across a touching article the other day.
It was about a man with a terminal brain tumour who had written a letter for his 5 year old daughter to read when he was gone.
The letter contains fatherly advice on how best to live her life.
It got me thinking.
What would I say to my boys if I had to write such a letter?
What would you say?
And would the advice we were to offer to our children (or others), be in line with the way we’re currently living our lives?
And if not, why not?
Surely, anything we would advise a child to do is how we believe we should be living our lives?
Give it a go – write the letter you would write on your deathbed.
A short note will do.
Or something a bit longer.
Are you living your life in line with that?
If not, what do you need to do to change your life so that you are?

Here’s mine:
The most important thing in life is to be happy.
If you’re not happy, do what you need to do to make yourself happy.
Treat others as you would want to be treated yourself.
Treat your body with respect – it’s the only one you’ll ever get and it’s got to last you.
A healthy mind feeds off a healthy body.
Never listen to anyone who tells you that you can’t do something – you can do / be anything you want to be.
Follow your heart.
Be careful with the hearts of others.
Work hard.
Work smart as well for better results.
In fact, work smart before you work hard.
You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with – surround yourself with people that make you the person you want to be.
Don’t allow negativity into your life.
You get what you tolerate.
Don’t be a bully – people can be different to you and you don’t have to like them, but live and let live.
Do things that scare you.
Improve every day of your life.
Make a difference.
Be yourself – don’t try and conform to what other’s expect of you. Be you and those that like that will gravitate towards you. Those that don’t won’t.
There are no second chances – we only get one go at this life. Grab it by the balls!
Most of all – have fun.

So, give it a go.
Are you living your life in line with what you said?
And if not, what do you need to change?
