Last New York related blog, I promise.
It’s always interesting when abroad to see the differences in how things are done.
As Vincent (John Travolta) says to Jules (Samuel L Jackson) when discussing the differences between Europe and America in Pulp Fiction, “It’s the little differences”.
One thing that I particularly liked was the board on the Metro which showed upcoming stops.
I’ll be honest, overall the Metro was pretty run down and nowhere near as good as the Tube in London.
But the board that you might be able to see in some versions of this blog was cool.
Along the bottom it read “Next stop, “2 stops”, “3 stops”, etc in permanent print.
And LED writing above that changed after each station so it was very easy to keep track of how many stops to your station.
Genius, I thought.
Such a simple idea, but so effective.
Like a lot of the things we can do to improve our health and fitness.
Something that’s really easy to overcomplicate.
We end up looking at what high level athletes or full time fitness models do……..
And then not doing anything because that’s impossible for us.
Sure, wholesale changes to the way we eat might produce the best results.
But we can probably just make a few tactical swaps and / or reduce portion size for some pretty good progress.
Putting our workouts on repeat function in our calendar and then moving them where needed doesn’t guarantee that they will happen…….
But it makes it far more likely for my experience.
Buying a large water bottle and then having on our desk at work takes seconds for disproportionate benefit.
‘Complicated and difficult’ can have its place.
Butt, for most of us, ‘simple and effective’ is where it’s at (it’s www.myrise.co.uk/apply when you’re ready to accept ‘sub-optimal and done’ over ‘theoretically better but not done’).
Much love,
