In yesterday’s blog, I mentioned a couple of speed awareness course attendees who were less open to it than I was.

One particularly felt that everything is designed to catch people out.

The whole system is “just a way to make money”.

He referenced how much more simple he felt it was to drive when he was young.

Less different speed limits and changes to them.

“You’ve got to have your wits about you” he said.

And I don’t doubt that, in some ways, it is harder to stay within the speed limit than it was 50 years ago.

I do doubt though that he, and others, were always staying within the speed limit back then. But that’s a different story

I’m sure that modern roads do provide much more “opportunities” for us to speed.

Like modern food provides much more “opportunities” for us to over consume.

There is more calorie dense, hyper palatable, relatively cheap, easily available food than at any point in history.

My Granny probably could’ve over consumed what she ate to the point of weight gain.

But it would be nowhere as easy to do as it is nowadays.

I get that.

But I also get that, like there are always indicators of the speed limit wherever you are (street lights, signs and so on)………….

We always have access to indicators for our food.

Many things will have labels on them.

For those that don’t, the answer is but a quick Google or app search away.

We can, of course, choose not to pay attention to those indicators.

Our call (like it’s our call whether we click www.myrise.co.uk/apply and change our lives in September or we don’t….. and don’t)

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t readily available information at all times to enable us to keep to the speed limit and to keep within maintenance or deficit calories (or whatever other box needs to be ticked nutritionally for our goals).

Much love,

Jon ‘half wit’ Hall
