My wife likes to buy stuff online from an auctioneers.

They have several locations across the country but there’s one not too far from where my side of the family live and another I can pop to on the school run for my older sons.

It’s end of line stock, display models and the like – new but not necessarily in 100% perfect condition with fully intact packaging, etc.

You can go and view the items while the auction is running online, but we never do.

She’s got some great bargains over the years – an inflatable hot tub for £100 which should be £500 a £600 wardrobe for £80 and so on.

Just before Christmas she asked me to pick up several things – that wardrobe, Europe’s Largest Bean Bag (which was even bigger than you might expect), a garden store and some other stuff I forget.

When I went to assemble the garden store I noticed it was missing a door.

So I left it in the pieces stacked up by the garden wall.

I emailed the manufacturer and they said they didn’t have any doors in stock but would send me one when they did.

It finally arrived last week.

In the meantime, the pieces had ended up getting moved a few times.

So they were pretty dirty.

I had to clean them whilst I was assembling.

And I realised I’d lost the instructions.

So I had to find them online, download and print them off.

And, whilst assembling, I realised there was also a pair of brackets missing that I”ll now have to order and wait to arrive.

As I was finishing up I realised I actually could’ve pretty much built it when we first got it.

Just left it with the door off and added that last.

It would’ve looked nicer than bits just being left out.

And been less effort overall.

I created more work by leaving it.

Which is often the case.

We think we haven’t got everything we need to do something (time, energy, money, etc)…………

And we “leave it”.

When we come to sorting it, it’s going to take even more time, energy and / or money.

Our bodies being a prime example.

We know how easy it can be to feel “I’m too busy” or “I don’t have the time and energy for this right now” or “I can’t justify the cost at the moment”.

We know because we sometimes feel that way ourselves.

But we know that it’ll only get worse if we “leave it”.

It becomes a bigger job.

Harder to sort.

Doing what we can right now…………

Knowingly sub-optimal…………

But considerably more than nothing………..

Is the only way to make it easier (and there will never be a better time to start than right now –> www.myrise.co.uk/apply) .

Much love,

Jon ‘The hot tub has a puncture at the moment’ Hall
