Who remembers trying to justify their behaviour to a parent…….

And pointing out that the reason we did it (or wanted to do it) was that a friend had.

Let’s call this friend Billy.

“If Billy jumped off a cliff, would you?” would be the invariable reply.

A valid question.

Doing something because someone else has isn’t really a great reason.

If we want to do it, that’s cool.

But let’s recognise that as the reason.

We don’t need to do what others do.

It’s often advisable not to, to be honest.

In a world that’s getting fatter, sicker and more miserable year on year………

Doing what everyone else is has, arguably, never been less of a good idea.

We try and fit in with others…….

When they live lives that we have no desire to replicate.

Just because “That’s what everyone does” is only a reason if we choose it to be.

If the people in our lives eat more than they have to, only see the week as something to “get through” so they can sedate at the weekend ready to repeat and don’t exercise and / or mediate regularly………

That doesn’t mean we have to.

Mark Twain famously said “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

Much love,
