In case there’s anyone reading this that hasn’t read any of my emails before, I have two sons called Oli and Jamie and my girlfriend Alex has a daughter called Isabel.

3 kids between 3 and 5 in the house.

I love them greatly and they can be great fun and very sweet – but, god damn, they can be annoying at times.

Last Thursday we had Oli’s little mate Noah for a sleep over.

And Ol really pissed me off by spending the whole evening whinging.

Izzie wasn’t much better.

At one point, in the playground, all four of them were lying on the floor crying.

I was tempted to join them to be honest.

Having kids has made me realise that whinging is a natural reaction for us humans.

We’re all born doing it to different degrees.

It’s a parent’s job, over time, to train them out of it (we’re still working on that).

I think we’re born wanting the world to cave to our will.

And whilst that can be a great mind set to help people change the world, it can lead us to a lot of unhappiness in later life.

If we keep mind sets like “I should be able to eat what I want and not gain weight” or “It’s not fair, I can’t afford to join the ……” and so on, it makes leading a happy, balanced life very difficult.

So, if there’s still a mind set that you have that’s making things hard work for you, it’s up to you to train it out of yourself now.

Imagine your brain is a small child with a behaviour issue.

How would you deal with it?

How would you change that behaviour?

And do that to your brain.

Tomorrow I’ll let you know what I ate on my son’s 3rd birthday a few weeks ago and a realisation that it bought to me 🙂

Much love,

Jon “Tries not to whinge back at them” Hall
