So, I was demoing exercises in the 7am session.

One of them was dumbbell hammer curls.

Bending and straightening the arms whilst holding dumbells vertically (like a hammer).

I likened it to “milking a giant cow”.

To which one of our ninjas, Nik, said “You’ve never milked a cow, have you Jon?”

“I’ve milked lots, now you mention it” I replied.

I was bought up on a dairy farm you see.

But, to be honest, I didn’t milk all that often.

My Dad did the milking and I did various jobs round the farm.

It got me wondering how many times my Dad had milked a cow.

A quick calculation of an average of 200 cows, twice a day, 365 days a year for 45 years suggests he milked a cow………..

6 1/2 million times.

Even if the average number was lower (he had 360 at one point, a few dozen for the last few years) and there were some holidays, etc……..

You’re still looking at a minimum of 4 million milks I reckon.

Lot that, innit?

If I’d have said to my 21 year old Dad that he’d have to milk a cow 6 1/2 million times over the course of his working life, he’d have been somewhat overfaced I’m sure.

In the same way that people are often put off by the volume of work that they may have to do to get in the shape they’d like to get in.

Depending on where they are starting, it might take a few years.

Eating well 90% of the time and training 3 times a week would add up to about 2,000 healthy meals and 300 workouts.

Easy to get put off by that, no?

But I’m sure my Dad wasn’t ticking off those 6 1/2 million milks.

Like you don’t tick off everything you’ll do in your work over a lifetime.

We just get up everyday and go and do what needs to be done that day.

One hour and one day at a time.

And it’s the same with what you might need to do to get where you want to get to health and physique wise.

Just get up every day and buy and eat some healthy meals most of the time.

When you don’t, quickly forget about it and get back to it next meal.

Do some exercise on most of those days.

When you don’t, don’t worry about it – do some next time you can.

And you will get there.

Promise 🙂

Much love,
