Tide Is High by Atomic Kitten came on the radio the other day.
Honest!
I wasn’t listening to my ‘Best of Atomic Kitten’ CD on repeat, ok?
There is, of course, the superior Blondie original from the greatest year ever, 1980.
But this was, I’m afraid, the Atomic Kitten version.
Either way, there’s a line in there that jumped out at me.
“A moments pain for a lifetime’s pleasure”
Which is kinda what we have to do to achieve (and maintain) our weight, health and fitness goals.
Saying no to those extras that make the difference between being in a deficit or being in a surplus……..
Is a bit of pain.
I’d love to have every bit of seconds (or fourths) I’ve ever been offered.
That biscuit, chocolate, etc.
That extra glass of something.
But the saying no is only a moment’s pain, isn’t it?
But helps contribute to a lifetime of pleasure elsewhere.
In feeling good.
Having a body we like the look and feel of.
All else being equal, being more likely to live longer.
More energy, better sleep, etc (as always, check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you like the sound of all that).
In the same way that saying yes only gives a moment of pleasure……..
But can contribute to a lifetime of pain.
We are, of course, all about worker smarter.
Challenging mind sets, habits, etc.
Prioritising your big wins and so on.
But……..
Sometimes it is just a a case of taking that moment’s pain……..
For that lifetime’s pleasure 🙂
