Another thing we get asked about a lot is about the effect of artificial sweeteners, diet soft drinks and so on.

I saw a great analogy the other day that kind of sums up our thoughts on them.

“Focusing on artificial sweeteners when trying to lose weight is like trying to stop the Titanic from sinking by throwing water overboard with a tea cup”

Why Cutting Out Artificial Sweeteners Isn’t Necessary

It’s another example of most FitPros’ focus on nothing but “optimal”.

On, perhaps, what an athlete might do for the very best results.

Whilst it is true that a sweetener and diet soft drink isn’t “nothing”.

Ie: It doesn’t have quite the same effect on the body as, say, just drinking water.

The difference is relatively minimal compared to what, for many, are much bigger wins.

Moving more to “a balanced diet of mostly natural foods, not too much” will get waaaayyyyyy more results than dropping a couple of Diet Cokes will.

Artificial Sweeteners and Their Place in Weight Loss

Why Dropping Artificial Sweeteners May be Detrimental

And for many, dropping a few key things they enjoy can make it “a step too far”.

If they feel they can never have a soft drink again and they have to drop their sweetener in their tea (or coffee) ON TOP of everything else.

That can feel too much to do for many.

So they end up not doing anything.

Or they can feel that by dropping the above, they’re doing what they need to do to get their goal.

And making little if any changes to the things that will get them 95% of their results.

To make it clear, we’re not recommending artificial sweeteners and diet soft drinks.

We’re saying that there are bigger wins.

Ultimately, it’s about finding a lifestyle that you are happy (enough) with (that might, if it doesn’t already, include what we do at RISE in Macclesfield).

That takes you in the right direction.

If it’s not taking you in the right direction, find those adjustments to what you’re doing that will mean it does.

Concentrate on the things that give the greatest change for (what for you is) the least effort.

Much love,
