Those of you that have kids will, I’m sure, have noticed how teaching them things helps clarify how we do them ourselves.

 

Or, sometimes, to question what we do.

 

Those that don’t have kids can imagine, I’m sure.

 

Teaching someone else things makes your crystallise in your head how it’s done.

 

Many things in life we’ve just done on autopilot for many years without ever really thinking about them.

 

It’s the whole “watch one, do one, teach one” method.

 

If you can concisely teach someone how to do something you’ve probably got a pretty good understanding of it.

 

I’ve been working with my kids recently on getting through the things that just need to be done.

 

You know, getting on with teeth, hair and uniform and having a some spare time to play.

 

And getting to be relatively leisurely in leaving for the school run.

 

Rather than taking an eternity over getting ready, having no play time and being a rush job to get out on time.

 

I phrased it a particular way the other day that I liked.

 

These are things to “do as fast as can be done properly”.

 

No rushing and not ending up with clean teeth or neat hair and uniform.

 

But not taking any longer than has to be done either.

 

It’s a phrase worth remembering for our health and fitness pursuits.

 

Get it all done as fast as can be done properly.

 

Interval training isn’t the magical, physics defying exercise it was once described as.

 

But it is a quick and efficient way to get a volume of exercise (and related benefits) done (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you want to get the benefits of your exercise as quickly as possible, whilst having fun with like minded people in an intimidation free atmosphere AND getting support it what to do in, and how, in the other 165 hours in the week).

 

Nothing wrong with long, low intensity convention “cardio”.

 

But if somethings going to take twice as long for the same return, that’s not for me.

 

Same with food prep.

 

Meals made of loads of ingredients and completely from scratch are lovely and have their place.

 

 

But if you can grab something from the shop that’s just (or maybe, at least, 90%) as good but in just two minutes……….

 

That’s a big win.

 

Doing a big batch cook on a Sunday night and tupperwaring it up is a perfectly fine approach.

 

But cooking twice as much of something you’re already cooking and leaving some on a plate for tomorrow is just as good and much quicker.

 

You get the idea.

 

There’s no points for putting the hours in.

 

Get it all done as fast as can be done properly 🙂
