While we’re on the subject of breakfast……….

I’ve had a few people ask about ‘Breakfast bars’ recently.

Like those Belvita ones.

If they are ‘Good’ or ‘Bad’.

I personally wouldn’t bother with them, I’ll be honest.

I’d rather have something a bit more filling and nutritious.

But, what is interesting about that is the name.

Breakfast bars.

Sounds fairly healthy, no?

Better than ‘Biscuit’ yeah?

Which is what they are.

If someone told you they ate biscuits for breakfast you might question that.

But ‘Breakfast bar’ is fine.

Food marketers earn their money by helping a product sell more.

So, anyway they can describe it that increases sales is good for them.

And making things sounds healthy is a great way to increase sales.

So, here’s a list of words that food marketers may put on a product to make it sound ‘healthy’.

I’m not saying they are or aren’t or that you should or shouldn’t have them.

Just helping you question what’s being said.

“Low fat”

“Low carb”

“Low calorie”

“High protein”

“Diet”

“Natural”

“Superfoods”

And many more.

These words don’t necessarily mean they are the best choice for you.

They may be.

But they may not be too.

Remember that dog muck is low fat and from a reneweable source.

Arsenic is natural and low in calories.

Doesn’t mean you’d have them.

Question the motive behind the description.

Look what’s actually in it.

The ingredients, the overall amount of calories, protein, carbs and fat.

You don’t need to analyse everything you ever eat.

But having an idea of what’s in it………..

And not just going off what food marketers want you to see…………

Is a great start 🙂
