I was listening to the wireless in the car the other day.

————— I like to use terms that were actually dated when I was a kid to wind my kids up. Hit Parade is a good one. ————–

Jessie by Joshua Kaddison came on.

In it the eponymous Jessie seems to have been in and out of the singers life.

Until she ‘calls at 5am’.

“Baby, I’ve been thinking ’bout a trailer by the sea.
We could go to Mexico, you, the cat and me.
We’ll drink tequila and look for seashells.
Now, doesn’t that sound sweet?”

This, obviously, isn’t the first time this has happened and he and the cat (Mose) have spent time getting over Jessie.

“I swear to god this time it’s going to last” she promises him.

I’m doubtful anything will be different this time.

People can change.

But, in my humble opinion at least, it requires more than just “trying again and trying harder”.

A change in approach.

Something fundamentally different happening.

Every January millions attempt the same thing in the same way as every other January.

Swearing to god that “this time it’s going to last”.

It, of course, doesn’t mean it can’t happen.

For them.

Or for you.

Just that, maybe, a change of approach is required.

“Trying harder” is rarely the answer.

As we were probably trying hard last time.

Releasing some of the brakes that hold us back in life and allowing the same amount of effort to start to propel us forward is key.

Challenging mindsets, habits and self limiting beliefs through these blogs, the daily members only videos, conversations with coaches and more.

Using the supports systems on our app / site if you haven’t (consistently) been before.

Trying something fundamentally different if “going back to the gym / slimming club” hasn’t worked (consistently) before (cough ** find out more meeting tomorrow night now ** cough –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

Remember, ‘if nothing changes, nothing changes’.

Don’t do the equivalent of setting yourself up for heartbreak by going back to Jessie.

Release some of those brakes, change the approach, and see the same effort yield new results 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘James’ Hall and Matt ‘Woody’ Nicholson
