In over 20 years in the Fitness Industry, I’ve seen a lot of people come and go.

In my early days on the gym floor there’d be new PTs arriving then leaving within weeks on a regular basis.

And I still see posts online from people leaving the industry on a regular basis.

Whatever reasons they may give, it nearly always boils down to one thing.

They don’t have enough clients.

If they did and they were making enough money, the other problems wouldn’t be so much of an issue.

Or I sometimes see people lamenting that they don’t get paid more in the Fitness Industry.

And in both cases the title to this blog is a common statement.

“I’m good at what I do”

If I had a pound for every time I heard that another local Fitness Professional had been telling people that they were better at this than I am………

Then I wouldn’t be rich, but I genuinely would have a few hundred pounds.

And I don’t doubt that all of the above people are very good at certain elements of this.

Probably the workout design element.

Maybe their session delivery.

I don’t doubt that there are plenty of people out there who write more advanced workout programmes than I do.

And, maybe by some definition, their Sessions are “better” than mine.

But that’s only part of what a Fitness Professional does.

Ultimately, we help people get results.

And that’s rarely as simple as writing a good workout programme when workout programmes have been freely available online for over two decades.

And a good Session is great but, again, is only part of it.

What we, ultimately, get paid for is a product of how many people we help and how good we are helping them.

How much we change people’s lives and how many lives we change (This is what we do. Check www.myrise.co.uk/apply for your rise free trial of that)

Other aspects don’t really matter if this isn’t happening.

As is the same with our attempts to make changes to our bodies, energy levels and lives in general.

If we’re looking to lose weight then it doesn’t really matter what changes we’ve made to our eating and how healthy we consider it to be if we’re not in a calorie deficit.

It doesn’t matter how long we spend exercising if we don’t adjust the intensity over time to stop it becoming too easy for us.

It doesn’t matter how effective an exercise program is if we don’t like doing it and, therefore, don’t do it.

It doesn’t matter how hard we’re working at something if we’re not ticking the boxes that need to be ticked to create the change that we desire.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if we’re doing ‘some’ things if we’re not doing it the right things.

Much love,

Jon ‘Will Hunting’ Hall
