You know calories, yeah?

 

The little buggers that sneak into you via your favourite treat and make your trousers tight?

 

Bastards, no?

 

When you stop and think about it though, calories are awesome.

 

What are Calories?

 

They are just a measurement of energy.

 

In the case of how we normally think of them they are the energy consumed via food and drink or used via our body doing stuff.

 

All the stuff.

 

The boring stuff like the Thermogenic Effect of Food (TEF) – how much energy is used in processing food in our bodies.

 

Slightly less boring, but still quite boring, like our BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) – how much energy our body needs to survive.

 

Right through to the epic stuff.

 

What are calories?

 

What Calories Have Done For Us

 

Your wedding day?

 

Wouldn’t have happened without calories.

 

The birth of your children?

 

Wouldn’t have happened without calories.

 

That time you did INSERT EPIC STUFF YOU’VE DONE?

 

Wouldn’t have happened without calories.

 

Every single amazing memory you have in that brain box of yours……….

 

Everything you’ve ever done that you enjoyed……….

 

All that you’ve done that you’re proud of…………

 

Every single second of everything that you’ve experienced between the moment you were born and right now, as you read this blog……….

 

Wouldn’t have happened without calories.

 

What are calories? Calories are not a bad thing.

 

Don’t fear them.

 

But just don’t go too nuts on them, yeah?

 

Don’t overdo it to point that they start to undo all that epic stuff.

 

Where they stop you doing more of it.

 

As always, it’s about balance.

 

Have enough so you can carry on doing epic stuff.

 

But not so much that it stops you.
