A random old quote from the TV show ‘The Simpsons’ popped into my head.

A quick google says it’s from the near 25 year old episode ‘Bart’s Girlfriend’.

Which made me feel a little old.

Anyway, Bart and his sister Lisa are playing as ‘Native Americans’.

Lisa says to Bart “Remember, Bart, I mean, Dances in Underwear, we take the white man alive.”

To which Bart replies “Alright, Thinks Too Much, it shall be so.”

Throughout all the years of the Simpsons I enjoyed watching (the 90s), Bart was always very much a ‘doer’ and Lisa a ‘thinker’.

Bart would often get in trouble from doing things without any thoughts.

And Lisa would often not get done what she’d like due to thinking too much and not taking action.

Because, ultimately, action is what makes things happen.

Action is key.

Thinking is great for deciding on the correct action.

But that often takes less thought than we might tell ourselves.

We often know what needs to be done with just a little thought.

Over thinking it then just leads to ‘paralysis by analysis’.

I’ve know plenty of people over the years who are constantly searching for that ‘best way’ to get in shape………………

Then rarely get round to doing anything about it.

And I’ve known lots of people with minimal knowledge get in pretty good shape just by getting going and correcting course along the way.

Just give it enough thought to come to the decision you know to be best.

Think it would be a good idea to do some exercise today?

Yes?

Then do some!

It might not be the ‘perfect’ or ‘ideal’ workout.

But it’ll be better than nothing.

Think you (or a friend) might like to find out more about what we do but you missed the meeting last night?

Then hit reply and let me know – we’ve got a couple of spaces on the June programme still left.

Think you probably shouldn’t eat that extra bit of cake / biscuit / whatever?

Then don’t.

All easier said than done, of course.

But everything is easier said than done.

We don’t need to give it any more thought than that, if we chose not to.

Any more thought will probably lead to us doing nothing, or worse.

Be that little bit ‘more Lisa’ than Bart, sure – so we don’t do stupid stuff that gets us in trouble.

But don’t be ‘too Lisa’.

Don’t be ‘Thinks Too Much’.

Much love,
