There’s certain sentences you here a lot when you’re a Fit:Pro.

 

“Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it” is one of them.

 

Because that’s often what people think they need to begin with.

 

Just information.

 

The most powerful way to help people question that………..

 

Is to ask “Did that work last time?”

 

Invariably the answer is “No”.

 

No one ever joins us as their very first attempt to get fitter, slimmer, stronger and / or healthier.

 

Every single member has done something before.

 

Ranging from recently trying a gym or diet for the first time.

 

To decades of yo-yoing.

 

And, ultimately, if that had worked for them (long term), they probably wouldn’t have come to us.

 

Doesn’t mean it couldn’t have worked.

 

But it didn’t for whatever reason.

 

Been told what to do wasn’t the answer then.

 

And it isn’t now.

 

I’d wager that in any goal we have in life, we know what to do.

 

Maybe not the best, most efficient, biggest bang for your buck way.

 

But a way.

 

We know how to earn more money, feel better, lose weight, make new friends, get a boyfriend or girlfriend or pretty much anything else.

 

But doesn’t mean we always do these things does it?

 

If your friend asked you how to do any of the above, you wouldn’t just scratch your head and “I dunno” would you?

 

In my opinion, FitPros who sell you their services based purely on ‘telling you what to do’ are insulting your intelligence.

 

Knowing what to do is only part of the answer.

 

In any area.

 

Whilst we can continue to search for ever better ways to do ‘it’ (whatever ‘it’ is)………..

 

We also need to evaluate why it didn’t work before.

 

What stopped us?

 

What’s in the way?

 

Both externally and between our ears.

So we can apply the same effort (or maybe even less)………..

 

And get more forward progress from it?

 

I can’t give you that answer in a blog.

 

It’s different for everyone (ourselves included).

 

But I can give you a nudge to ask ‘better questions’ than “What do I need to do?”
