Fun fact for you.

I grew up (well aged through to 18 anyway) on a dairy farm.

We had loads of cows.

I recently found a Year 7 French book in which I’d written ‘Mon pere a trente cent soixante vache’.

So, until my Dad retired 5 years ago, I must’ve seen a number of thousand cows over the years.

And, despite the phrase, very few of them were particularly fat.

Big, lumpy animals sure.

But not really what I’d call fat.

Even when left with a field full of their favourite food, they rarely massively over ate.

Most animals don’t.

Ourselves included.

When you find tribes in the jungle who have unlimited access to a limited number of foods……….

That they and their ancestors have fed themselves with for generations…………

They are rarely particularly over weight.

“Intuitive eating” (as it’s often called) works well when we have access to a limited variety of unprocessed, often low calorie density foods.

Not so much with highly processed, high calorie density foods, specifically designed so that we will want to buy (and then eat) more.

It doesn’t mean it can’t.

You can lose and maintain weight just from paying attention to what you’re eating and not knowing the ‘numbers’ behind it.

But it’s much more tricky than it has been for our species at any point in history (which is part of the reason why so many people benefit from a bit of expert help with something their grandparents never needed help for. Check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you’d benefit from some world class assistance).

If ‘intuitive eating’ works for you, go for it.

If not, a few days or more of ‘tracking’ our eating can be eye opening.

Much love,
