Was asking in our private Facebook group the other day.

About what people are still struggling with.

A couple mentioned portion sizes.

Being unsure about how much they should eat.

To be honest, volume is one of the last things we get people to look at.

Not the first, like most approaches do.

We’d rather people concentrate on eating natural foods, with a good balance of protein, fat and carbs.

And getting sleep, stress levels and hydration better.

We usually find that when all these are ‘dialled in’ the volume question takes care of itself.

We have an appetite, honed over millions of years of evolution.

You don’t have to go back more than a few generations to find obesity being a very rare thing.

People often argue that they had less access to food then we do now.

True, of course.

But are they really saying that for generation after generation the majority of the world’s population happened to have just enough to survive and thrive but not to get overweight?

Our appetite works.

If it’s not confused by messed up hormone levels caused by eating stuff we’re not supposed to, dehydration, high stress levels and lack of sleep.

For the vast majority of people we find that when they sort that other stuff and partake of regular, effective exercise their natural appetite will get them 90% of the way.

We do, sometimes, look at calorie manipulation when people have everything else sorted and have plateaued close to their goals.

But it’s never the first thing to look at.

Get everything else sorted and, if you’re hungry, eat more.

If you’re not, don’t.

Much love,
