The average Briton gains half a stone over the Christmas period.

The average American a full stone between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The average RISE member doesn’t.

Most stand still or lose weight.

Those on our free challenge lose 15lbs over December to January.

## We have a 5lbs Christmas Leeway on challenges running through December. So, if you basically do what our members normally do for most of the time, you can then gain 5lbs of Christmas weight, still have lost 15lbs, and pass the challenge ##

How / why do our members still achieve forward progress (or at least stand still) at a time they would’ve previously gone backwards.
1. They only miss the sessions they have to miss.

We know activities, parties, get togethers, kids being off school, etc get in the way of workouts.

I have four kids and a busy social life myself.

We’re not monks.

But we also know that most people slip into a habit of not going at all when they could do at least a certain amount over the Christmas periods.

Gyms that were rammed in January are empty in December despite only have 5% less members.

You may have miss a few sessions (and, if you’re a member with us, do a home workout instead)………

But if you’ve planned ahead, booked your sessions that you can make and committed to going to them………..

It will make minimal difference.

2. They only eat and drink the crap they have to

We know there’s parties, events where others provide food, catered social events, etc.

Copious alcohol too.

But, really, how many?

10-15 at most I would think?

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

A work’s party or two.

A few other social events with friends and family.

10 or so meals out of the 93 in December.

10 or so meals out of the 186 over an 8 week challenge.

There’s only so much damage that can do if you don’t let it ‘bleed’ into 50 or so of the other meals.

Christmas only sets us seriously back when we ‘write it off’.

When we plan to ‘start again in January’.

If we identify the bits that would set us back……..

And limit them to just those bits………
I’ve written similar blogs to this in previous years.

But I’ve probably left them a bit late.

When many people have already slipped into those ‘Christmas Habits’.

Putting this out early this year so people can have a think and a plan in advance.
If someone’s happy gaining half a stone plus over Christmas, that’s cool – that’s their choice.

If you’re not and would rather be somewhere between standing still and 15lbs lighter, there’s a couple of things to think about.

And, if you haven’t checked it out already, you might want to find out more about our December – January challenge with the ‘5lbs Christmas Leeway’ –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting .
