The other month the ‘friends of the school’ group at my step-daughter’s school organised an Easter Egg hunt for the kids.

My wife Alex designed the layout, signs, handouts, etc.

My job was to source the eggs themselves.

140 of them.

weight loss preconceptions

Previous years they’d got them from Tesco on the offer they often have up until a few weeks before Easter.

The problem was that there’s a limit of how many of the same thing you can buy at most supermarkets.

I think it was 8.

Which required 18 trips to Tesco over different days between various parents.

When he heard this, Ian, one of our members who works at Tesco, kindly offered to sort the eggs out in one go.

Which he did – I popped to Tesco and returned with a car full of eggs which we stored for a few weeks and I dropped off at the school office a few days before the hunt.

Thanks Ian 🙂

As I was dropping them off a few of the other parent’s joked along the lines of “I didn’t think you liked chocolate”.

Weight Loss Preconceptions

It’s something I’ve heard many, many times over the years.

People assuming I don’t like cake, biscuits, puddings, chocolate or the like.

Or that I never eat them.

If I had a pound for every time I’ve had a dessert with a meal out and had people say “I’m surprised you eat that” then I’d have, I dunno, at few hundred pounds at least.

As a species we find it very easy to allow ourselves to think that those that are getting different results are some how different people. We have all these weight loss preconceptions.

That those are slimmer than us “have a better metabolism” (whatever that means).

Or they don’t like cake / biscuits / ice cream / alcohol.

Or they’re not as busy / don’t have as much on.

Or have less injuries.

And sure, in some cases these things are true.

Some slimmer people I’ve met do have more free time.

Some don’t like cake or biscuits.

But I’ve met plenty of very busy slim people who do.

And I’ve met plenty of people with weight they want to lose who have a bit more flexible time and aren’t that bothered by some of those foods.

Ultimately we’re on the same journey.

And even if some aren’t there are millions and millions who are in exactly the same boat.

Thinking “It’s different for me” is one of the most diss-empowering things we can do.

Much love,
