My youngest son is two this Thursday.
He’s a big lad.
10lbs 5oz when he was born.
Kept on that top line since.
I popped him on the scales the other day just out of interest.
He was 34lbs.
When he was one I think he was about 22lbs IIRC.
12lbs gainz in each of the last two years.
Exactly what you want (give or take) for a baby of course.
But the opposite?
12lbs loss in a year?
Of fat?
For an adult?
Less than a stone?
Doesn’t sound all that great does it?
Does fill you with enthusiasm does it?
If you saw a programme advertised that offered “Lose 12lbs in a year” you probably wouldn’t be overly interested, would you?
It’s easy to think “I won’t bother if it’s going to take that long”.
‘Slow’ progress isn’t sexy and motivating, is it?
The thing is though……….
It’s better than no progress.
Or regress.
We’re going to get to this time next year either way.
Hopefully.
Death is the only reason we won’t.
If the choices are being 12lbs lighter or being the same?
Or being 12lbs heavier?
Or replace 12lbs with any other measure of progress (X% fitter, faster or stronger)?
Then the ‘slow’ progress is better no progress, isn’t it?
Life is a marathon.
You can run, jog, walk or crawl it.
Just don’t stop because crawling doesn’t seem fast enough.
It’s better than standing still or heading back to the start line (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if that’s been you and you’re ready to, at least, start crawling back in the right direction – the next find out more meeting is in just eight days).
Much love,
Jon ‘My poor wife’ Hall and Matt ‘Similar gainz over the last few years’ Nicholson
