Weight loss and fitness decisions

[rt_reading_time label=”Reading Time:” postfix=”minutes” postfix_singular=”minute”]

This last Saturday I took my step-daughter to a birthday party and Jump Heaven at Hazel Grove.

It was there at my eldest’s party thirteen months ago that I did in the ligaments in my ankle.

I’ve been back on the trampoline with the kids for several months and have been to a couple of trampolining parks earlier this year.

But only now is my ankle returning to near normal.

90% ish now I’d say.

I haven’t done a back flip since I hurt my ankle.

Not because that’s what did it, just I’ve been a bit worried it would re-injure it.

Not so much from a landing (although that too) but from the quick extension through the ankle required to get over.

My ankle’s good enough now so there’s no reason I couldn’t give it a go on Saturday,.

But, I’ll be honest, I was nervous.

Thoughts of re-injuring my ankle or of landing on my head running through my mind.

I’d practically talked myself out of it.

Until, I realised……….

That if I didn’t do it then………

I may never do it.

Nothing would be particularly different next time I came.

I’d probably talk myself out of it then too.

There’s a reasonable chance I may never get round to doing it.

Because it’s a slippery slope.

Decisions are rarely just that decision and that alone.

They often affect our future decisions.

Don’t do something when we could and it makes it less likely we’ll do it when we could next time.

Miss a workout when we could make it and we’re more likely to do that again.

Make ourselves go even though we don’t feel like it (and, hopefully, enjoy it when we’re there) and we’re more likely to do that next time.

Same with food and drink choices.

We don’t have to live like monks.

I got pretty pissed on Saturday night.

My wife rolled in at 5.30am on Saturday morning and spent the day in bed, missing said party.

But they were planned (to some degree – she is “never drinking again. I’m serious”).

If I didn't do it then, I may never - weight loss and fitness decisions

Eat crap when we had planned to eat better?

Get hammered when we said we wouldn’t?

Say “no” to that cake at work 20 times until you say “yes” the twenty first time you’re asked?

Get a crappy take out when we’ve got something better in the fridge waiting?

These all make it more likely we’ll do the same next time.

Remember that our decisions shape future decisions.

That it isn’t “just one” really.

Plan the week so that it includes stuff you don’t want to go without……….

But the average of still takes you in the right direction.

Stick with those decisions even when you don’t really want to………

And the results will come with time 🙂

Much love,
