Those of you that have school aged children will be in the middle of performance season, I’m sure.

Concerts, pantos, plays, nativities, etc.

Last Tuesday I went to my old primary school to see my nephew and niece in ‘The Pied Piper’.

And I was roped into selling raffle tickets.

I was given several different coloured books of raffle tickets and advised to use them all.

Thinking it wouldn’t make any difference I started with just the one book.

“A strip of each colour” the first guy asked.

“They’re just yellow” I replied.

“Oh, I’ll just have two strips then”.

When I pulled out the other three books he had a strip of each.

As did a number of people.

It seems this is common tactic.

As I’m sure you know, it makes no sense.

All tickets are equally likely to win.

And only the corresponding tickets from those sold go into the draw.

Initially I though this was a bit daft.

Made no sense.

It’s human nature to want to argue with reality.

Thinking things “shouldn’t” be a certain way.

When that argument doesn’t actually help get us the result we desire.

Or accept it and work with it.

We can either wish we were able to mainline cake, biscuits, alcohol, etc all week and still be in the shape we’d like to be in……..

Or we can just accept that isn’t going to happen and get on with doing the things that will actually make us much happier long term.

We can waste time thinking that we can eat and life a certain way because someone else seems to be able to and still have a body they are happy with……….

Or we can accept that way doesn’t work for us, for whatever reason, and move on from it.

Arguing with reality is never the answer.

Accepting that some things just are the way makes our choices much easier 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘The school seems to have shrunk in my 25 year absence’ Hall and Matt ‘Joseph’ Nicholson
