Remember your first job?

Did you get paid in cash in a little brown envelope?

If you didn’t, did you even have a first job?

You had an amount of cash to last you till the next pay day.

And you soon learned to make it last.

You didn’t have to spend the same amount of money every day, of course.

But you soon learned how to distribute those outgoings.

A few times you got a bit carried away and had to make very little last till payday.

But then, one day, we got a credit card.

Access to money we didn’t really have.

And that didn’t automatically mean we got into debt.

But it became a much easier possibility, didn’t it?

Our fat stores are the equivilent of that credit card.

We, essentially, have a ‘budget’ of calories we need a week.

We can go over budget.

And our fat stores will cover that.

And to get ‘out of debt’ we’ll just need to ‘spend in a deficit’ at some point for a sufficient amount.

So, like you might cut up a credit card to help you get rid of that surplus ………..

We can just imagine we didn’t have the storage option.

Just isn’t a thing.

It’s like when we had that brown envelope of cash to last us the week.

Take your daily calorie requirement and subtract how much would lead to the rate of weight loss you desire (the Food or Assessment tabs on the app / site do this for you if you’re already a member).

Times it by 7 so you’ve got your weekly budget.

Friday to Friday works well as massively overspending at the weekend and then being ‘broke’ for the rest of the week will help question the next weekend’s level of overspending.

Ultimately, spend it how you like, just don’t overspend (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you like the sound of an approach that doesn’t involve cutting out all your favourite stuff and gives you flexibility).

Much love,

Jon ‘Never actually had a credit card’ Hall and Matt ‘Got married on Friday’ Nicholson
