I’ve made a lot of comparisons to the olde weight loss game and spending / saving recently.

 

Quite a good way to look at it I think.

 

Got another one here.

 

Healthier food shopping can be seen like shopping can be seen a bit like shopping on a reduced budget.

 

Let’s say you normally spend £140 a week on food (keep reading before anyone comments on that being a lot).

 

You have to cut it down to £84 due to being in debt (having a deficit to chip away at).

 

How do you do it?

 

You probably wouldn’t completely cut out all the more expensive things you particularly enjoy.

 

But maybe have them less often.

 

Make a few tactical swaps for some lower priced options you find equally enjoyable.

 

Increase intake of some of the cheaper, not particularly exciting (but alright) options.

 

Not you first choice

 

Wouldn’t be ideal, but you’d get by wouldn’t you?

 

You might not enjoy it quite as much as before but it wouldn’t be miserable, would it?

 

You wouldn’t drop to £40 a week, be miserable and give up after a while would you?

 

You wouldn’t think it had to be exactly £12 a day and stop the first time you spent £16 in one day.

 

You’d find a way that was still fine.

 

So why not approach food choices from a weight loss perspective in the same way.

 

Been eating 2,000 cals a day (14,000 per week) and need to reduce that to ‘repay’ that surplus?

 

By dropping to 1,200 a day (8,400 per week)?

 

——— Multiply both numbers by an appropriate factor where necessary. These are example round numbers that might be applicable to an average height woman ————–

 

How would you do it?

 

You might drop to 4,000 cals per week, be miserable and give up after a while would you?

 

You might think it had to be exactly 1,200 calories a day and stop the first time you had 1,600 in one day.

 

You probably have done these, or similar.

 

Most people have.

 

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

 

Treat it like that reduced budget.

 

You don’t need to completely cut out all the higher calorie things you particularly enjoy.

 

But maybe have them less often.

Increase intake of some of the low cal, filling, not particularly exciting (but alright) options.
