How many days old are you?

If you’re reading this blog you’re likely to be somewhere between 7,000 and, maybe, 30,000 days old.

Out of all those days, how many would you say your training and nutrition were ‘perfect’.

However you may define ‘perfect’.

You ate and drank absolutely spot on.

Exercised well and as effectively as possible.

Nothing could have been better.

How many?

sub-optimal training

I’d go for none for most.

It’s none for me.

I could always, if I so chose, make it ‘even better’.

Do a bit more flexibility or supportive work.

Maybe a run.

Or just doing something on the days I don’t exercise.

Food could always be better, in theory.

For some people they might have done a few dozen to, maybe, a few hundred days in their life that were ‘spot on’.

Either way – about 0 – 5% of our days are ‘perfect’.

So the other 95 – 100% are sub-optimal.

And that’s fine.

Sub-optimal training

Realising that sub-optimal training is fine is massively empowering (check our briefing meetings at RISE in Macclesfield if you like the sound of an approach that doesn’t just make you feel bad if you don’t do ‘optimal’ all the time).

When you realise that every day will likely be sub-optimal, there is no “writing it off”.

We don’t go “well, I’ve dropped from 82% optimal yesterday to 67% today, so I might as well just do 48% for the rest of the week”.

When we accept that “good enough is good enough”…………

And that something being less good doesn’t have to have any affect whatsoever on our future decisions……….

That’s where the long term success comes 🙂

Much love,
