A few years ago, my family got the the full James Bond DVD set for Christmas.

Love Bond, me.

I’ve been working through them with my two oldest boys.

We recently watched Octopussy.

In it James dresses as a clown to try and infiltrate a circus.

In the same way as he wears the skeleton suit and mask for the Day of the Dead parade at the start of SPECTRE.

The poncho and sombrero in Moonraker.

The Mujahideen uniform in The Living Daylights.

And so on.

All outfits that he would stand out as a sore thumb in strolling across Westminster Bridge to MI5.

But he blends in to those situations.

The second he’s exposed though, he can’t go back to blending in.

Someone realises it’s him and shenanigans ensue.

We all try and blend in.

Human nature.

And, arguably, the best thing to do in many situations.

But, sometimes, in life we have to expose ourselves (so to speak).

To stick our head out.

Because, once we’re out of hiding, we can’t go back!

We have a goal that we’d like to achieve but we don’t tell anyone?

It’s very easy to fail in private.

Doesn’t really matter.

Weight Loss Accountability

We tell everyone, proclaim our intentions publicly, put a specific outcome and date on it?

We may still not get there.

But there’s a waaaaaayyyyyy bigger chance that we will.

And, even if we don’t, I’d bet my last pound we’ll do more than if we just set that goal privately.

We’ll get closer.

Go an a ’20lbs in 8 week challenge’ and post about it on Facebook?

I can guarantee you will lose a lot more weight than if you just think to yourself “I’m going to try and lose some weight” (check RISE in Macclesfield’s briefing meetings if you like the sound of ‘a lot more weight loss’ than you’ve been getting).

Hopefully the full 20.

But 15 is still miles better than a couple.

Or none.

Or gaining weight.

When we give ourselves some weight loss accountability……….

Some ‘skin in the game’………

When we ‘expose’ ourselves……..

We can’t go back!

Much love,

Jon ‘Oddjob’ Hall and Matt ‘Third nipple’ Nicholson
