Sometimes you hear an expression that neatly encapsulates your existing thoughts or things you’ve said.

I heard one the other day.

It was in relation to how we see things that have happened and our reaction to them.

“Just right size it”

So when we eat more than 5% of our weekly calorie needs in one meal that’s all that’s happened.

That’s the ‘right size’.

Expressions like “I’ve ruined it” and “it’s a write-off” and “I need to start again next week” are wrong size.

An inappropriately large interpretation and response.

Missing a workout is just potentially one less bit of exercise we can fit in in the rest of our life.

But probably one we can pull back somewhere.

That’s the right size.

Leaving any exercise until next week, next month or some point in the future “when the time is better” is an inappropriately large interpretation and response.

In 99.9% of cases, I’d wager the expressions like “I’ve ruined it”, “It was terrible”, “I’ve really messed up”, etc……..

Are wrong sized reactions.

So, next time something doesn’t go as you would ideally like it to……..

Just right size it.

Much love,

Jon ‘bike for height’ Hall
