I mentioned yesterday that I haven’t watched the news or bought a paper in a decade.

I know some will think that’s odd.

But I know I feel much better by being selective about what goes into my mind.

Doesn’t mean I’m not aware of what’s going on that’s important and relevant to me.

I just don’t give someone else carte blanche as to what I see and hear.

Sitting down and, essentially, saying “Give me whatever you’ve decided is worthwhile”.

I’m really glad I haven’t watched the news over the last few years.

I’m fairly sure all the Brexit, and then COVID, stuff would’ve made me feel worse.

I feel that periodical googling gives me all the COVID related info I need.

I know what the current regulations are and stick to them (I’m a “good boy”, you see – I’ll cover that and why I’m never “naughty” tomorrow).

I know what the provisional dates are for changes that will affect the business and my personal life.

And, just to see how likely those things are, I google COVID rates every week or two.

And get the graph you can see in this blog.

If it’s going in the direction it needs to be, I’ll continue with current plans.

If not, I’ll start to consider other options.

That will do me.

I know there’s much more going on.

But I don’t know how much knowing all that will really help me and the people that rely on my energy levels.

The most important number on that graph is, of course, the 7 day average.

The daily numbers jump up and down.

Particularly after the weekend.

But the 7 day average and it’s direction compared to previous weeks shows the trend.

And those that can affect that trend (through policies, etc) will be steered by that trend.

If they were to change course every time it was higher than the previous day then the response would be all over the place.

Easily forgetting that yesterday was below the day before…………

When today comes in higher than yesterday.

And our weight is the same.

Many FitPros will tell you not to weigh yourself too often.

They will strongly advise against daily weighing.

And I do get that.

But people will still do it anyway.

Someone who’s good at this game (cough ** us ** cough) won’t just tell you not to do stuff that you’ll probably still keep doing (drinking, snacking, eating ice cream, etc)……………

But will equip you with the tools and skills to do it in a way that helps, not hinders.

Our weight jumps up and down throughout the day and week.

Particularly after the weekend.

But the 7 day average and it’s direction compared to previous weeks shows the trend.

And those that can affect that trend (you – through your choices and average approach) will be steered by that trend.

If you were to change course every time your weight was higher than the previous day then your response would be all over the place.

Easily forgetting that yesterday was below the day before…………

When today comes in higher than yesterday.

Again, I’m not suggesting that you start weighing yourself daily.

But if you do, this might be a better way to do it.

I’ve knocked up a little Excel (I like Excel) tracker you can use to keep track of this if you like.

Check it out at https://myrise.co.uk/rise-7-day-average-weight-tracker

The password is blank if you want to edit it, but it shouldn’t really need it.

Or you can do your own version with pen, paper and a calculator (or some other way).

The average numbers going in the direction you want?

Awesome, keep going 🙂

They’re not?

Time for a change of ‘policy’?

And tomorrow, I’ll cover the answer to the question I get a lot – “Aren’t you ever naughty?”

Much love,
