Have you ever seen a post on Facebook that says ‘Link in the comments’?

As in they have a link they’d like you to follow but it’s in the first comment on the post, not within the post itself?

Either from a business page or, often, from a ‘friend’ who’s got involved in some Multi-Level Marketing set up selling pointless ‘weight loss supplements’.

You know why they do it?

Facebook, as a platform, wants to keep people within Facebook.

Rather than you leaving to go elsewhere.

So posts with links in have a lower organic (non paid for) reach than those without.

And you have to pay to get the same sort of reach.

So ye olde link in the comments is someone’s attempt to bypass that.

To get the same reach for whatever they are selling, without having to pay for it.

The thing is though, Facebook aren’t daft.

They are aware of such things.

There algorithm picks these up and treats them just the same as the posts with the links.

I get that people, particularly with start up businesses, want to keep the costs down.

But sometimes you’ve just gotta pay the price.

What you get is worth it.

And endless attempts to find ways around the system just leads to people not getting the result they desire.

We spend a considerable amount each month on Facebook marketing.

More than anyone else we know with a similar business.

But………

We have more members and are therefore able to pay all our bills and provide for ourselves and our staff.

And have done for over six years.

Those we know who post ‘link in the comments’ might save that Facebook ad spend but, from those we know, are struggling to get by, beginning to hate their business and are unlikely to still be doing this in a year or two.

Sometimes, you just gotta pay the price.

Like with our eating and exercise.

Sure it’s great to aim for biggest bang for your buck and highest return on investment.

But that constant search for a way around the system?

That always looking for the ‘new thing’ that will be the answer?

That will, essentially, allow better results from the same actions?

That will not only stop the backwards slide, but undo it and create progression, by doing pretty much the same?

Ain’t gonna happen.

Sometimes, you just gotta pay the price.

Sure, make it as enjoyable and easy as possible (no point making it harder than it has to be –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting. Find out more meeting is tomorrow BTW).

But accept that it’s not going to be easy.

It will sometimes involve things you’d, ideally, kinda rather not do.

Or not doing things you’d, ideally, kinda rather do.

But, what you get is worth it.

The longer, happier, healthier life is worth that price.

Much love,

Jon ‘Chain’ Hall and Matt ‘Up’ Nicholson
