I talked yesterday about the concept of “falling off the wagon”.

And a few different ways that we could see it.

Firstly that there is no wagon.

It doesn’t exist.

It’s just choices that we’re making.

Another way we could choose to see it is that we didn’t fall off it.

We willingly stepped off it.

Or it disintegrated beneath us.

Because it was a rubbish wagon.

If it was such a good wagon, we’d still be on it, wouldn’t we?

It was a bad plan.

With a bad approach

It was probably very ‘best case scenario’.

All or nothing.

Eating like an athlete and training like an Olympian.

Or feeling that we’ve “failed”.

The same plan that’s led us to feel like we’ve failed every other time we’ve tried it.

It maybe didn’t get much beyond initial stages of planning.

It was too vague.

“Eat better and exercise more”.

Or maybe “Do three Sessions and eat in a calorie deficit”.

But did we get as far as to booking those Sessions in?

Putting them on a repeat function on our calendar?

Looking at what else needs to be sorted in our day and week to allow them to happen?

And did we plan how we intended to create that calorie deficit?

We don’t need to plan every morsel of food we’re going to eat.

But at least some sort of a plan as to what the week is going to look like?

Did the plan take into account our current level of commitment?

What we actually are willing to do rather than what we think we should be able to do on our best day?

Our current situation and challenges?

Was it tied into what we really value as opposed to what just sounds about right?

Did it factor in lessons from the past?

At best at wagon is a plan.

If we willingly step off it or it falls apart beneath us, it’s a rubbish wagon / plan.

How can we build a better one next time?
