You ever seen this meme before?

“Crawling is acceptable. Falling is acceptable. Puking is acceptable. Crying is acceptable. Blood is acceptable. Pain is acceptable. Quitting is not.”

Me no like this.

Massively off-putting for the vast majority of the population.

Paints exercise in a way that just isn’t worth it for most people.

I have to crawl, fall, puke, cry, bleed and be in pain to lose weight?

Nay worth it!

It doesn’t have to be that way.

There is a difference between struggling and suffering.

Most things worth doing in life will involve some struggle.

Some effort, some persistence, some sacrifice here and there.

But suffering is optional.

Does exercise have to be painful?

We don’t need to suffer.

Sure if you’re a top level sports person you may need to take it to that extent.

And maybe that approach would get someone to their target a fraction quicker.

But for the average person wanting to lose some weight, get fitter and healthier and feel better?

Where taking 10 or 20% longer to get there is fine?

It doesn’t need to be this way. Does exercise have to be painful? No.

The key to success is hitting that sweet spot.

Goldilocks exercise.

Not too easy, not too hard (check RISE in Macclesfield’s briefing meeting page if you like the sound of that – find-out-more meeting tomorrow night now).

Enough to illicit a change in the body.

Not so much you don’t enjoy it and don’t want to come back!

Struggle, sure.

But don’t suffer!

Much love,

Jon ‘Exorcist’ Hall and Matt ‘Bridesmaids’ Nicholson

P.S. Two points for those middle names 🙂
