———————-

I mentioned last week about the London Marathon.

And this Saturday it’s Born Survivor that we have 50 members taking part in at Capesthorne Hall.

So there’s a lot of people we know who’ve been doing a bit more ‘running training’ than usual at the moment.

The majority of people who join us aren’t massive fans of running (ourselves included).

There is, of course, lots of approaches to keeping going when running.

One common one, when you’re struggling is to “run to the next lamp post”.

Or some other visual marker that’s in sight.

Something that’s a bit of a distance away.

A bit of a challenge.

But feels doable.

Once you get to that point you might decide to keep going to some other marker.

Maybe the next lamp post.

You might slow down or walk for a while.

Perhaps to a marker of some sort again.

You might even stop for a rest.

But, the vast majority of times, you set a goal of “run to the next lamp post”, you make it, don’t you?

Not always, sure.

But usually.

More often, I’d say than by running to some marker you can’t see.

Or all the way to the end.

Things that are too far away can be hard to continue to work towards when the going gets tough.

Things that are nearer but a little challenging can be much more motivating.

Living longer in decades is perfectly fine goal.

But living better next month is a better one (check myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting if you’re ready to get cracking on that next month).

Something that feels ‘in sight’.

Losing that first few pounds.

Getting that bit fitter, stronger, faster, more energetic, happier, etc.

Hit that first.

Run to that ‘lamp post’.

Then you might keep running to the next.

You might slow for a bit.

You might even have a little rest.

Just don’t walk back to the previous post.

Much love,

Jon ‘I love lamp’ Hall and Matt ‘Shade’ Nicholson

P.S. Forgot to say last week – my middle names are Charles and William (after my grandfathers) and Matt’s is Francis.
