Imagine a friend was complaining about how long it took them to do some work.

Something on a computer.

You went and had a look to see if you can help.

You notice the computer is still running on Windows 95.

## Scarily, some younger readers won’t have even heard of this ##

What would you say?

Something along the lines of “Upgrade your operating system, you muppet” I should imagine.

##############

We often hear from people when they first start with us that “I’m not into all this self-help malarkey”

And we get that.

There is this strong perception of ‘self help’ being a bit happy-clappy, repeating positive mantras, etc.

What we are into is self improvement.

Which we all, hopefully are.

Every time you learn something new you are improving yourself in some way.

A new skill for work, a new recipe, some interesting information to regale people with at a cocktail party – all self improvement.

## On a side note, do people still have cocktail parties? ##

Every time you exercise you are self-improving.

If you’re not into self improvement to some degree then what you’re, essentially, saying is that you haven’t improved since you left school.

Meaning the average 18 is a just as good as you at everything.

Self improvement is a bit like installing new programmes on your computer.

A work programme, a cooking programme, an information programme or a health and fitness programme.

And where a lot of people face challenges is when they are trying to install more and more programmes on an old and limited operating system.

Imagine trying to play Halo 4 on a 21 year old PC.

Upgrading our ‘operating system’ means we can handle all these new ‘programmes’ a bit more comfortably.

Our operating system is based largely on our beliefs systems.

What we believe about ourselves and the world around us.

Believe that maths is hard work and boring and you’ll struggle with it, I’m sure.

Believe that exercise is hard work and boring and the same will happen.

Believe that healthy eating is expensive, time consuming and restrictive and all the new ‘programmes’ of diets, etc will only run successfully for a short while.

In general, anytime we think something isn’t something we actually want to do, we won’t do it for all that long.

Our operating system will only run those programmes for as long as our will power can force it too!

When we ‘upgrade’ that operating system………

When we challenge those beliefs………

When it becomes less about effort, sacrifice, restriction, etc, etc……..

And more about enjoyment and pleasure……….

About having a body that you like the look and feel of……….

And that can do ‘cool shit’……….

Then those programmes just, kinda, keep on running!

Much love,

Jon ‘Atari STE’ Hall and Matt ‘MegaDrive’ Nicholson
