I was driving over the Cat and Fiddle the other day.

 

For non local readers it’s the nickname of the A537 road between Macclesfield and Buxton.

 

I didn’t run over the dish and spoon’s mates if that’s what you were worried about ;).

 

I glanced down into the valley as we passed between the tea rooms and the pub.

 

And noticed for the first time the stream running down the bottom.

 

It made me think about the power of a stream.

 

Small changes for weight loss

 

At some point in the distant past that area was probably as high as the peak by the pub (give or take).

 

And that stream has bit, by bit, over millions of years,worn away probably millions of tonnes of ground.

 

Imagine a big storm there.

 

There’s probably been many of them over the years.

 

They’ve probably momentarily accelerated that wearing of the earth a little.

 

But 99% of that result has come from the small seemingly inconsequential, daily action of the stream flowing down.

 

Compounding over time.

 

Small Changes for Weight Loss

 

It’s the same with the olde weight loss game.

 

We can have the occasional ‘storm’.

 

A short period of fast progress.

 

But most of the result will come from those small seemingly inconsequential, daily actions. Small changes for weight loss.

 

Compounding over time.

 

The changes we can maintain (cutting portion sizes a little, making some strategic substitutions in what we eat, being more conscious of what ‘sneaks’ into our mouths)………….

 

Will cause more change in the long run than the occasional bursts of bigger changes done for a short while.

 

And if the storm causes the stream to stop?

 

If the short term, more extreme changes cause us to stop completely and go back to old habits?

 

The result will never come.

 

Remember, you can slow down and speed up.
