There was a bit of a furore on Facey recently.

Well, my Facebook anyway.

An internationally well known FitPro who specialises in nutrition was outed by several women for unacceptable sexual behaviour towards them at conferences.

It was very interesting to see different people’s reactions to this.

Some trying to defend his actions as what they perceived to being ‘overly flirtatious’ or ‘horseplay’.

Some clearly pulling up a pew to watch the spectacle unfold.

But one comment, from another well know FitPro, really jumped out at me.

It described the situation as “the darkest day in our industry’s history”.

Which didn’t seem quite right to me.

Completely unacceptable as his behaviour was / is, I’m not sure it particularly reflected on our industry.

If he was a dentist, would that have been considered as the ‘darkest day in dentistry’?

Maybe.

But I wouldn’t have thought so.

Our industry does need a lot of work doing on it.

It’s largely unregulated and there’s a lot of dross out there.

In my humble point of view, the thing we have to be most ashamed about it how utterly awful we are, as a cross industry average, at our jobs.

Thousands of new FitPros qualify every year.

Most have left the industry withing 18 months.

More money is spent on us by more people than at any time in history.

Yet the population is fatter, sicker and less happy than it ever has been.

And the downward trend shows no sign of slowing.

Of course, each individual has the ultimate responsibility for their choices.

But, if crime figures were going up, we would look at the police and government.

The criminals still make their own choices, of course.

But you’d have to question what was happening from a prevention point of view.

As an industry, we are failing spectacularly.

No ifs and buts around that.

But………….

Change is happening.

In 16 1/2 years in the industry much of the positive changes I’ve seen have been in the last few years.

A determined effort by many to increase standards.

To stop our profession being seen as some combination of a “joke”, “a hobby” or “something anyone can do”.

We’re getting there, slowly.

And you can do your bit too.

Do your ‘due diligence’.

Look at what options there are our there, what they offer, their successes and more.

Not just how much it costs.

Make an investment minded decision rather than a cost orientated one.

We know that our programme costs a bit more than joining a gym does.

Particularly a budget gym.

But, as with the differing costs of any similar but different things, there’s always a reason for different costs.

In what you get.

“Buy cheap and buy twice” as they say.

————– Check LINK if you, or a friend, are ready to invest a little more for some real, life changing results. And, potentially, get that refunded too ————-

We’ll continue to do our best to offer what we think is great value for money for what you get, but that can never be as cheap as something lesser.

To ever improve what we deliver.

Standards will continue to rise across the board.

I’ve got about 30 years till retirement age.

Hopefully this will be seen as a proper profession that people can rely on by then 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘Dark Knight’ Hall and Matt ‘I believe in a thing called love’ Nicholson
