In their book ‘Art and Fear’, David Bayles and Ted Orland tell the story of a ceramics teacher who conducted an experiment with his students.

One day he splits his new class into two groups.

And tells one group that they would be assessed on the quality of the best pot they produced.

The other group would be marked on quantity.

Which group produced the best pots?

The second.

Whilst the first group spent ages planning, thinking and studying…….

And had some fairly poor attempts to show at the end……..

The second group practiced themselves good by blasting those pots out like there was no tomorrow.

Experience beat theory.

As it often does.

There’s a quote I love by George S. Patton.

“A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week”

We’ve noticed many times over the years that people can get caught up looking for the ‘perfect answer’.

The ‘perfect diet’.

The ‘perfect workout’.

And never really get going.

And, therefore, not got any results.

And we’ve noticed plenty of people who’ve got pretty reasonable results just by getting going.

No idea what they’re doing to start with.

Then learning as they go, tweaking and refining.

Creating ever better results along the way.

You may not be sure of the best way to eat or exercise or how to fit those things into your already busy and challenging lives……..

But I’m sure you know a slightly better way than what you’re doing right now.

If you’re not exercising at all, there’ll be some sort of exercise you can start immediately (maybe this –> /briefing-meeting).

I’m sure you know some meals that will be better for you.

I’m sure you can think of a few ways to work on those things you find difficult.

Just get going.

Correct course on the way.

Start making rubbish pots.

And, before you know it, you’ll have some works of art 🙂

Much love,
