Imagine you’ve got a hill to climb.

You’ve been told it’ll take 7 hours.

You can choose your route.

There are several.

One is a straight line, steady incline, same speed all the way.

The others involved a mixture of inclines.

Up, flat, up.

Up, down a bit, up, flat, down a bit, up, up, up.

There’s one that looks pretty easy to start with.

Downhill pretty rapidly for the first two hours.

You decide to try that.

You get to the end of the 2 hours and realise that it’s going to be incredibly hard to get to the top in the remaining 5 hours.

It’ll take most of that just to get back to the height you started.

It’s doable, but you’re going to have to absolutely bust a gut.

And you’ve got other stuff on at the same time.

What do you do?

Leave it, I should imagine.

Understandable.

I think I would in that case.

Next week, you’re going to try the same hill.

What do you do?

Tweak your approach presumably?

A few downs here are there are fine.

But try and be going forward most of the time, on average.

Leaving a doable last 5 hours.

I’m sure you’ve got the analogy.

The 7 hours is the 7 days of the week.

The first two is the weekend.

That’s why it can be so powerful so consider your food and drink ‘budget’ Friday to Friday.

You got mental for the first two days and leave a doable but incredibly hard next five days and what do you do?

Leave it probably.

Next time you take a more measured approach to those first two days.

Some ‘downs’ perhaps.

But minimising them to keep us level with where we started or with an achievable ‘down’ to overcome.

A few tactical swaps of food and drink that have zero impact on how much fun we have.

Accepting that what we do on Friday and Saturday night doesn’t have to have any impact on the other 6 meals of the weekend, unless we choose it to.

Ultimately, pick whatever ‘route’ you like (clicking myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting is the first step in the route that has changed the lives of hundreds of people in Macclesfield and could be the same for you, or a friend).

But if the first couple of hours makes the next five next to impossible, maybe question that a little next time?

Much love,
