Realistic time frames for weight loss

I mentioned yesterday that I was at a kids birthday party at Jump Heaven in Hazel Grove.

One of the things they have there is a climbing wall.

You can start from either end, press the red button to start the timer and press the one in the middle when you get to it to see how fast you got there.

You have to hold the ‘start’ button down to reset the timer to zero before your start.

For about two to three seconds.

They couldn't reset it - Realistic time frames for weight loss

But the vast majority of kids get frustrated with it when it doesn’t work instantly.

They hold it down for half a second or so and then think that they’ve done it wrong.

Someone tells them that they have to hold it for longer and they manage a second or second and a half a few times and think it’s broken.

I’ve seen many a child walk away from it thinking it’s not working.

Now, I know kids are particularly impatient (I have four plus five nephews and a niece).

But, to me, this is one of many signs that we, as a population, are getting less and less patient.

Lowering attention spans driven by social media and a near infinite number of easy to access options………….

Coupled with constant promises of ever faster results…………

Means we want everything faster and faster.

We spend years and years with our bodies sliding slowly away from where we’d like them to be…………

Then get frustrated when we’ve not undone that in a matter of weeks.

Whilst we are renowned for getting people huge changes, quicker than they have elsewhere………

That still takes time.

And is, often, only the first steps in a longer journey.

We find that we almost have to ‘meet people where they are’ with the talk of quicker, shorter term results…………

To then get the opportunity to transition that into longer term results and, eventually, maintenance.

These things take time.

Sometimes, depending on the scale of the goal, it will take years.

And even then the goal will probably move.

We’ll work towards the ‘next thing’.

There is no ‘finish line’.

We can have short term goals along the way.

Bursts of acceleration and circumstance and motivation allow.

But………

We, sometimes, need to rediscover some of that lost patience.

But, the great news is…………..

We won’t get that time back either way.

If it’ll take a year or two………….

Then we’re getting to a year of two down the line either way.

Short of dying.

We can either get there and have got it done.

Or get there and not got the result, because it seemed to be taking too long.

Much love,
