A few weeks ago I went with my mother to watch the filming of A Question Of Sport at MediaCity in Manchester.

We’d got some free tickets and it sounded fun.

It was pretty much as you’d expect.

Filmed as you see it on TV.

Just quite a bit longer in places and they’ll trim it down.

The answering of the questions, etc is completely legit.

However some other bits weren’t quite what they seemed.

For example there was a bit of genuine confusion (and comedy) at one point when Phil Tuffnel miscounted the number of balls left in one of the games.

And, after, they had him ‘redo’ the bit where he realises.

As it, perhaps, wasn’t clear enough what had happened.

And, at the beginning, before anyone had come out, they filmed us responding in certain ways.

“Laughter to polite applause”

“A steady chuckle”

“On your feet applause”

And so on.

To be interspersed at relevant points.

I’ll be honest.

I’ve started this blog and am not really sure where I’m going with this.

Leave it with me, I’ll be back shortly.

Right, got it!

Only took me a week 😉

Things aren’t always what they seem, are they.

What you see may be technically correct.

But it doesn’t tell the full story.

You see it a lot in food labelling.

Things being described as ‘healthy’.

When they are by some definition.

They’re low(er) or high(er) in something that something that can be considered ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

Low fat, no added sugar, fortified with vitmains, etc, etc.

But that doesn’t automatically mean it’s a good choice.

Arsenic is low in fat.

Dog muck has no added sugar.

You could spray a rock with some vitamins.

And so on.

In fact, from experience, most of the things that are labelled as healthy are probably best avoided.

Or at least don’t go too crazy on them!

Real food doesn’t come with much in the way of labelling.

You know – meat, veg, fruits, pulses, etc, etc.

Whatever you choose to do……..

Know that what you’re being shown isn’t necessarily the whole story!

Much love,
