We’ve mentioned many times that we’ve noticed a change over our time in the Fitness Industry.

More and more the reasons given for not doing something is time.

When I started as a fresh faced FitPro over 16 years ago, time was one of a number of reasons someone might give for not being in the shape they’d like to be.

Now it’s nearly always the main one.

And I get that.

As a society we have never been so time poor and pushed so hard from all angles.

I have four kids.

One 2 minute nursery run, a 10 minute school run and a 45 minute school run (all each way).

A busy business.

A wife that often has to work extra hours while I have to ‘pick up the slack’.

I get it!

I know sometimes we don’t have the time to do things as we would like to.

But…………

I do also feel that, as a society, we have learnt more and more to justify things with a lack of time…………

When that isn’t the entirety of the conversation.

I often check my phone after not looking at it for half an hour or so and have 20+ Facebook notifications.

It’s because a member has been catching up on some of the (I’d like to think) helpful stuff we post in the group.

The other day I had three of them coincidentally at it at the same time.

Clearly scrolling through, watching, reading and liking the posts.

They hadn’t had the time to do it when it came out.

They were busy.

But they’d caught up when they did have a bit of time.

Make time for exercise

Which, from my experience, we all do at some point.

Maybe not at the point we would’ve liked, sure.

But at some point in the 168 of the week.

Make time for exercise

Many, many times over the years people have told me that they haven’t done something because they were too busy.

When it’s something that might take a minute or two.

They haven’t done it in two months.

Did they really not have a single minute or two free over the 80,000+ minute in two months?

If they don’t want to do it, that’s cool.

If you don’t, that’s fine too.

Their / your prerogative.

We’re all big boys and girls.

Who would I be to tell you what you should do?

But I will try and help people question their use of time as a reason for not doing something.

Sure, it might not be the perfect version.

We might not have time to do 4 good workouts and 21 great meals that week.

Doesn’t mean we can’t do one or two sessions, a little bit of home exercise and eat as well a possible under the circumstances, does it? Make time for exercise.

It’s that whole black or white, all or nothing mentality that can hold us back.

Just because it’s not going to be perfect, doesn’t mean we have to fling it all the way to rubbish.

“Busy” is doing what we can when we can.

Not doing anything because we’re “too busy” is a lie to ourselves that holds us back.

Much love,
