Aiming too high on weight loss and fitness goals?

The other day, the wife and I got this message through on WhatsApp.

"Wanna come to us tomorrow night? Got new weapons!!" - Aiming too high on weight loss and fitness goals

From our friends Darren and Heather.

Who’ve recently returned to RISE coincidentally.

Heather’s got an 11 month round the world yacht race to train for.

Like you do!

Anyway, we have a running joke about weaponry.

Stemming from mine and Alex’s wedding day.

Where we have photos from about half two in the morning of Darren attempting to behead my new wife with a genuine 5 foot broad sword he’d procured from the main hall.

######## He was after the suit of armour too but, even with the assistance of the surprisingly helpful barman, they were unable to get it down #######

Darren had made these new mallety things with his two sons for a bit of fun.

And thought I would appreciate them.

Which I did.

We actually spent most of the evening playing darts on the new board they’ve put up in the garage.

We played a version of ‘Killer’ – where you have to get each of the following three times; 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, doubles, trebles and bull.

Me and Shaun (their AirBnB guest) versus Heather and Darren versus Alex and Izzie.

Izzie is our 8 year old daughter / step-daughter if you didn’t know.

She’d never played darts before.

We got her a stool to stand on and moved her closer.

But even then just said “Just aim for the board”

When you’ve never played before, it’s quite a step to be aiming for pretty small targets.

Even for us five adults, who hadn’t played for a while, it was tricky.

Aiming too high on weight loss and fitness goals?

But that’s what we try and do in other areas of our lives, isn’t it?

Not played before, or for a while………..

And we aim straight for the ‘bull’.

Not exercised before or for a while…………..

Or not being eating great…………..

And we aim for five workouts a week and ‘perfect’ (whatever that means) eating 21 meals per week.

FitPros often compound this.

Giving out the ‘very best’ training and nutrition plan………..

Which has merit, sure…………

But if often ‘too much’ for most people.

And when we can’t do this perfect version that we or others have set………

We stop completely.

Only to restart again at some later date.

Never forget that that hitting the board is always better than not even throwing a dart.

Just do one workout a week for now.

Or whatever you know you can definitely do, whatever the circumstances.

Make a few changes to the eating.

Take that little step to find out more about what we do (find out more meeting tonight for the September programme. Don’t leave it another month. Details and booking at myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting.

Hitting the bull is nice.

And if you feel you can do it every time, then go for it.

But if all those misses are stopping you even playing……….

Then jut try hitting the board to start 🙂

Much love,

Jon
