I mentioned yesterday about Matt’s boxing.

It, obviously, involved him having his shirt off.

So, between those of us that were there and those that have seen the videos on Facebook since……….

There’s been a lot of people seen Matt without his top on that hadn’t previously.

Same with me.

With my one off wrestling return two weeks on Saturday, I’ve put a few things on Facebook that have involved me with no top on.

And we’ve both had a number of comments along the lines of “You’re bigger than I thought” or “I hadn’t realised you were that lean” or “You can’t tell you’re in that sort of shape normally”.

Which is good.

That’s exactly what we want.

Because, you see, most FitPros put topless (or skimpily attired) shots of themselves on social media all the time.

“Look at my abs. You too can have abs like this if you give me some money” being the central message.

Or talk endlessly about how much weight they can lift.

“Look how strong I am. You too can be this strong if you give me some money” being the central message.

Most FitPros don’t have many clients though.

And this is part of the reason.

How much does the average person identify with this?

Either you’re already there or thereabouts and you don’t see the benefit of paying that person money.

Or you’re not.

And knowing that someone 10 or 20 years younger than you, who lives in a gym, has no kids, lives with their mum and has no injuries………..

Has done it…………

Doesn’t inspire us to think that we can, does it?

Endless topless shots are more off putting for most than inspiring.

That’s why we talk way more about our member’s journeys.

Both in these blogs and in our member’s only Facebook group.

Hearing how someone you perceive to be similar to you has overcome the same challenges you’re facing………

Is way more useful than hearing what is essentially the same advice from us.

Or, if we do talk about ourselves it will be in terms of our own challenges that people can identify with.

I’ll talk about running a busy business whilst having four young children (with a 90 minute school run for two of them) and constant neck and back pain.

Matt talks about his dehydrated disks in his spine and the decade of crippling pain it gave him until he fixed himself.

And so on.

We know how challenging modern lives are for many of us.

And we know how little the average freshly qualified FitPro gets that.

But, at the same time, we know these challenges can be overcome.

We know the power of seeing others similar to us work round those challenges.

How seeing people in the same situations we face go on to reach their goals is way more ‘inspiring’ than a picture of the abs of someone in their early 20s who’s “always loved sport”.

If you haven’t quite seen how someone like you has overcome the challenges you’re struggling with, just ask.

Either reply here or ask in the group if you’re a member 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘Got 21 days to get my abs out’ Hall and Matt ‘Fixer upper’ Nicholson

P.S. Yesterday’s middle names were from Mortal Kombat, the console game.
