I do sometimes wonder if people in other industries get the same level of argument with much of what they say?

Do lawyers, doctors, electricians, plumbers, etc have people question their methods so much?

I get why it is.

Firstly there’s so much conflicting information out there about how to lose weight, exercise effectively, etc, etc (it’s the find-out-more meeting next week if you’re ever unsure what to do. Or, even worse, know what to do, but struggle to actually do it –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

Plus everyone has either lost weight / got fitter themselves or knows someone who has.

Not everyone has performed heart surgery, replaced a boiler and so on.

So, I get it.

What we do and recommend is, ultimately, a combination of science and experience.

Some things we’ve seen work over and over again with hundreds of people, might not have full scientific backing.

Yet.

And we’re aware that science’s advantages can also be its limitations.

That a controlled experiment that shows something to not be effective, when all other factors are controlled for………

Doesn’t mean it’s not effective in real world, where it probably affects some other factors.

So, what we say may or may not be 100% correct.

It seems to work well in the highest majority of cases though.

But we’re open to change.

We’re happy to be proved wrong.

Being proved wrong would mean we’d found a better way.

Every time we realise we’ve been wrong, it means we are, at least, slightly more right next time.

That’s cool.

For now though, what we recommend seems to work pretty (very) well.

If you know what we recommend and you’re doing it, hopefully you’re getting some good results.

If you feel you’re doing what we recommend and you’re not getting results, let us know – hopefully we can work out what’s not quite right.

If you’re struggling to do what we recommend let us know as well – we can look at why and work out a plan together 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘Direction’ Hall and Matt ‘Turn’ Nicholson
