I’ve mentioned in blogs before that from 2008 to 2010 I was an Area Manager for Fitness Agents – the company that ran the personal training brands in DW Sports Fitness, LA Fitness and various other health club chains.

I was part of the second phase of managers they’d taken on.

The first had all been PT Managers at LA Fitness clubs when the decision was made to take the running of that brand ‘external’.

A year or so later, when they took on the DW (and other) contracts, they needed some new managers who they recruited from club management level (I’d been Club Manager of a Fitness First in Sheffield).

As we came in they changed the pay structure.

From what had been more a ‘profit share’ before to a salary with bonus.

For some, this had meant an initial ‘pay cut’.

As Directors Andrew and Nick covered this in a meeting with us, they used a phrase I still remember to this day.

“We’ll be rewarding future input”.

As in, you’ve had the benefit (money) for the work you’ve done in the past.

This is the benefit for future work.

And you can’t use what you’ve done in the past as a justification for future benefit.

As you’ve already had the benefit of that.

It’s the same with most things in life.

Particularly with healthy eating and exercise.

We have to continue to do them to reap the benefit.

Not ALL the time.

But enough and over time.

The benefits of the workouts and better food choices we may have done last week / month / year / decade have been received.

Our body doesn’t owe us anything else from them.

Like we have to continue working in a job to continue getting paid…………

We have to continue exercising and making average better food choices in order to get to, or maintain, the body we want.

Maybe not how we’d ideally like it to be.

But, like work, when we just accept that and get on with doing it it till it becomes a habit………….

It all gets a lot easier.

Keep putting the input in (or get started again with something that’ll last –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting).

And you’ll keep getting the reward(s).

Much love,

Jon ‘Back to the’ Hall and Matt ‘Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn’ Nicholson
