A common question that you get asked when you’re a FitPro is “What do you eat?”

Whether a social function or by a member talking about their food.

People will often see you eating something and say “I’m surprised you eat that. What do you eat?”

I got it a few weeks ago at my youngest son’s second birthday when the NCT dads saw me eating some scones.

At the school ball 10 days ago when I had the pudding.

It’s quite a hard question to answer.

Just as it would be if I asked you.

“What do you eat?”

“Lots of stuff” you might answer.

Or “most things”.

And, really, it’s the same answer for us.

About the only thing I generally avoid is raw tomatoes.

You know, like you might get in a salad.

Just don’t like the taste and texture.

Cooked tomatoes in something is fine.

And even then, if you invited me round to a dinner party (feel free) and served me raw tomatoes, I’d eat them.

Just wouldn’t serve them to myself.

People are often a bit disappointed when they find we eat most things.

They’re kinda hoping that there’s some secret they weren’t aware of.

That there are certain things we eat or that we ‘cut out’ that they could then do the same with.

Or sometimes I think they hope we’ll reply with something so restrictive and full on that it justifies their belief that “I couldn’t do that”.

But the answer is a bit less ‘sexy’ than that.

A bit more mundane.

We mostly eat less processed stuff.

Plenty of meat, fish, veg, fruit, etc.

Generally (not always) lower energy density and more nutritious.

Some more processed, often more calorie dense stuff.

An amount of sugary things.

But not too much.

Some meals are cooked from scratch.

Some grabbed on the go.

Maintain an approximate average calorie balance.

Sometimes going up a pound or two, before paying a bit more attention to what we’re eating to create that deficit and dropping back down.

It doesn’t need to be all that difficult.

It’s not all that complicated.

If you’re not going in the direction you’d like, make enough adjustments so that you are (maybe by clicking this link to take the next step with us –> myrise.co.uk/briefing-meeting. Just 7 days to go. And don’t forget, we have a 5lbs leeway on challenges running through December. And a bonus 9th week on them too).

Doesn’t need to be from one extreme to the other.

Concentrate on the average of the week rather than worrying too much about individual meals or days.

Find a level that, give or take, you can maintain.

To do for the rest of your life.

You can answer “What do you eat” with “Anything” if you get that balance right 🙂
