We talk a lot about ‘mindset’ down here at RISE.

This week a member asked me “What is mindset?”

So, as always, I thought the response worthy of sharing with everyone.

Definition of Mindset

There are other definitions, of course.

But I like the following one;

“A set of beliefs or assumptions, which we hold to be true, that are so powerful that our behaviour conforms to them”

Mindset and how to change it

We all have mindsets.

About lots of different things.

A point of view, an opinion, a way of seeing the world.

Often the result of many different experiences, interactions and thoughts.

Years or decades.

Why Mindset is Important

We need mindsets to help us navigate the world.

To make sense of all that info that we receive every second of our lives.

Mindsets, in and of themselves, are neither a good thing or bad thing.

It’s just that sometimes we end up with ones that, perhaps, don’t serve us all that well.

We forget that they are beliefs and see them as insurmountable facts in our way.

If we strongly believe “I don’t have time to exercise” then our behaviour will conform to that.

We’ll live our life in a way that seems to prove that.

But, ultimately, we all have the time to exercise.

Even if it’s 10 minutes in front of the TV after the kids have gone to bed.

We may then chose to not to.

That’s our call.

Our prerogative..

Change Your Mindset

But once we change that mindset from “I don’t have time to exercise” to “I have time to exercise but am choosing to do other stuff”…………

It is, I should imagine, way more likely that we might exercise from time to time.

That we could, potentially, move to more regular exercise at some point.

If we change “Healthy food is expensive and time consuming” to “Some healthy food is expensive and time consuming, some is cheap and quick and everything in between”………..

We’re probably going to eat better overall.

If we question this “all or nothing” mindset we often have……….

Where things are ‘written off’ the moment they aren’t ‘perfect’…………

And we have a mindset more along the lines of “I’ll do it most of the time and not let the other times affect future choices…………

That will probably all help too.

You get the idea.

We all have these combinations of beliefs that we hold to be true that our behaviours conform to.

Every one of us in every aspect of our lives.

A Different Mindset

Try a different mindset on for size from time to time.

Maybe just for a few days.

Like test driving a car.

See how it feels.

If it ‘fits’.

If, maybe, you’d be better off keeping this new one 🙂

Much love,

Jon ‘Game’ Hall and Matt ‘Match’ Nicholson

P.S. Both yesterday’s middle names (Mark Ramos Nishita and Flloyd Mayweather) go by the nickname ‘Money’ 🙂

P.P.S. Speaking of money, we know that money is one of the principle concerns people have in coming to us. They’ve been stung by years of wasted money and gyms and the like. We get that. But we genuinely believe that, for the life changing results our guys get, the investment is one of the best you could ever make.
