We’ve mentioned the concept of Dichotomous Thinking many times before.

Where things are either black or white.

All or nothing.

It can manifest itself in many ways.

But a common one is in our workout frequency.

Three workouts a week is a good number to aim for.

But, what do you do if you can’t make three sessions?

The obvious answer, of course………

Is do two.

What if you can’t do two?

You got it………

Do one.

What if you can’t make one a week?

One a fortnight.

And so on.

But our ‘black or white’ brains think “I can’t do three this week”………

And don’t do any.

And that week quickly becomes a fortnight, which becomes a month and so on.

If you’ve ever not exercised for a month……….

Was it genuinely a case that you really couldn’t have made a single workout?

Maybe.

But probably not.

The answer is just to treat each choice, each option, as a standalone.

Nothing needs to be affected what what happened (or didn’t) yesterday, last week or last month.

The past and future don’t exist in any way, shape or form.

They are just thoughts in our head.

All that exists is the here and now.

The choice in front of us.

There is nothing to be ‘written off’.

No black or white.

No all or nothing.

Just a choice.

One that will take us towards our goals.

And one that will take us away from it.

Treat those choices as they come without any reference to any other choices…………

And, I promise, you’ll find it way easier to make the choices that will take you where you want to go 🙂

Much love,
